As much as I love stock Android sometimes you just need something different, and that’s essentially been the guiding mission of the folks over at Cyanogen Inc.They’ve made plenty of strides with their customized version of Android over the past few months, but now they’re on the verge of a big milestone — after officially revealing the thing back in September, Chinese OEM Oppo announced earlier today that its first Cyanogen-modded
lenovo s920 white smartphone will launch internationally in December.
Ultimately, the hardware will look quite different than what we're showing in the photos below, so bear with us and use your imaginations a bit. Though the screen you see up there is transparent (at least somewhat), the final version will be more truly see-through, and will stand up even better against harsh lighting. In fact, Arnab Raychaudhuri, the company's founder, says he expects to use the sort of transparent OLED display that Samsung has already been showing off for several years now (check out the link there for an idea of what you an expect). As for battery life, the display plugs into your car's cigarette lighter, so you won't have to worry about it going dead.
LG continues to release some fantastic products and the new LG G Pad 8.3 follows the exciting LG G2 while also serving as a smartphone companion. The eight inch tablet market is growing and LG's latest offering is priced competitively while offering up some unique functions and features. If I did not already have a new 2013 Nexus 7, then this is probably the tablet I would be purchasing.
I was able to easily go a couple of days with pretty heavy use, including watching a couple of movies. Using all of the software on the G Pad 8.3 actually has me considering a G2 as a smartphone for myself.
This article originally said the user’s eyes were what gave away the code, but it is in fact the orientation inferred from captured images that does so.Researchers at the University of Cambridge have come up with an ingenious way of revealing the PIN codes for sensitive applications running on
lenovo s960 online smartphones – listening for the sound of virtual buttons being pressed, and watching the user’s face as he or she types in their code.
LG announced the US availability of the G Pad 8.3 in mid-October and I have been using one for the last couple of weeks. THe first thing I thought when I took it out of the box was that the tablet is a more modern version of my HTC Flyer with the silver metal back and white plastic ends.
Connecting health-monitoring hardware to smartphones is a no-brainer. The phone does the heavy processing, offers up power and screen, and thus makes the hardware cheaper and more importantly , smaller. However, you still need to power the thing, which can be tough when you're trying to gauge vitals overnight or longer. Insert Coin competitor iOximeter reckons it's solved that issue by taking what it needs, power-wise, from your headphone socket. Using a special pulse sensor (that it already owns the intellectual property rights for), iOximeter drops the power requirements down to under 8mA, which means it frees up the typical smartphone battery port (micro-USB or Lightning; it's iOS- and Android-compatible) to continue charging.
To really get a feel for what’s going on here, we need to flash back to mid-September. Cyanogen raised $7 million from Benchmark Capital at the time, and the company not-so-subtly hinted that it would forge partnerships with some honest-to-goodness smartphone makers to bring their modified version of Android to a wider audience than just avid phone tinkerers. That first hardware partner wound up being none other than Oppo, a curious Chinese OEM who may be best known for its Blu-ray players that has managed to
lenovo s820 mobile cultivate a reputation for churning out some impressive (and impressively cheap) Android devices.
